Paris Airbnb of dreams

This post has been in the pipeline for a while, as we actually visited Paris at the end of August during the school holidays. We decided to do a stop off in Paris on the way to and from my in-laws in the Dordorgne. We had two nights in the city on the way there and one night on the way back. When I’m searching for Airbnb’s, I swear I literally spend hours on the website before I finally decide on a place. There’s so much to consider - the location, the cost, whether it’s suitable for your families needs, not to mention how stylish it is! ha! When I came across this apartment I really wanted it to be the perfect fit for us, and it turned out it was.

You never really know what you are going to get when you book an Airbnb, but this one really exceeded expectations. Paris is known for it’s tiny apartments, but this place is super spacious - a large kitchen with a dining table, through to a lovely living room with a typical Parisian balcony and then two really spacious bedrooms. The second bedroom had only a single bed, which was fine for our daughter, but I’m unsure if they can provide another fold out bed if you have more than one child. There was certainly room for a travel cot if you brought your own.

With Airbnb’s, I always think there is a fine line between making the place feel homely but not having all your worldly possessions on show. This place had it just right in that there were a few carefully chosen objects dotted around to style the space - books, ceramics, artwork, plants and dried flowers - making it feel stylish and inviting but not cluttered. They had loads of built-in storage in the kitchen and the bedrooms which obviously allowed the owners to store their own stuff when they weren’t there. Since we stayed there, I actually discovered that the apartment was designed by Heju - a French architect duo who I’m a little bit in love with. You can see more of the spaces they’ve designed on their site - just dreamy.

With an apartment like this, you could almost not leave the place during your stay, but we managed to drag ourselves away and the other bonus was that it is located in the Montmartre area of the city. We hadn’t stayed here before, but it was super close to the metro station, and was in walking distance of the Sacre Coeur. Early one morning, my other half went for a run and said this was the best time to visit the Sacre Coeur - before the droves of tourists showed up, so he got to enjoy the wonderful view of the city, almost interrupted.

The nearest metro was Jules Joffrin, which made it easy to travel around the city, It’s also well situated if you are planning to visit the flea markets at Clignancourt. On our return trip from the Dordogne, unfortunately this Airbnb was unavailable, so we stayed at Mama Shelter, which was also really fab, but I’ll save that, along with a few of my fave places, for another post!

BTW, I feel like I need to point out, this post isn’t sponsored - it wasn’t a gifted stay - I just loved it so much that I wanted to share! :)

We paid around £130 per night which I thought was pretty reasonable for such a great location and amazing accommodation. You can check out their listing here.

places to stay - Ford House, norfolk

We've had a pretty hectic 2016, mainly with the house move, and the stress that surrounded that, but also both holding down numerous work commitments as well as running after a two year old! So we didn't really have time to even think about a holiday let alone take one! We did have a lovely few days in Scotland for a family wedding in August - childfree - which was lots of fun, but we were keen to have a few nights away with Ruby too, as it's really important to me for her to experience other places too. So last week we took a few days away in Norfolk for a quick recharge of the batteries before Christmas is in full swing!

Before we were parents, if we went away anywhere, the quality of the accommodation was never really top of our priorities, mainly because we'd usually be out and about all day, and then out for dinner in the evenings, so it was just a base to sleep. But now, I've found, particularly while Ruby is so young, that where we stay is as much a part of the trip as anything else. She's in bed for 7pm every night, which obviously means we are in too, so having a lovely place to relax once she's in bed feels so important. And to be honest, it was when I saw Ford House on Instagram that I decided we should take a few days away! I wanted to stay in the house so bad!

Being greeted with this cosy scene after a long drive from Surrey instantly made me relax and feel at home. The house is two cottages knocked together, so while it has a country cottage feel, it has lots of space and has all the mod cons.

It's those thoughtful little touches that make a stay in a holiday cottage extra special, and as well as a hamper full of goodies for the adults, Amanda the owner, had left little Christmas gifts for the kids which was so sweet! Here is Ruby opening hers on the sheepskin rug in front of the Aga! What an idyllic scene eh?! :) (I also came home from here with the urge to put sheepskin rugs EVERYWHERE!)

Amanda has clearly put SO much love and attention to detail into creating the interior - there are so many lovely vintage finds dotted around, and little vases of flowers decorated every room - I certainly came home with lots of inspiration! I literally could've just stayed indoors for the entire weekend, but we did venture out occasionally! We took a walk on Wells-next-the-sea beach, which was stunning, had lunch and a wander in Burnham Market and made the trip to Stiffkey Stores, although I realised later that I'd completely missed the barn section! Gutted!

I honestly cannot recommend Ford House enough. Do pop over to their Instagram as they have a lovely feed! We will come back soon Norfolk! x

Places to stay: Bert's Barge

I haven't been around here much of late - things have been a tad busy what with working on the relaunch of 91 Magazine as well as my new part time job, not to mention additional freelance work that seems to all come in at once! :)

I've been working most evenings until about 11pm to try and stay on top of things, but I guess that's the life of a freelance working mum! I'm grateful for getting to do things that I love as a job, so I'm definitely not complaining, BUT a little holiday sometime soon would certainly be very welcome! :)

Even a couple of nights in a barge in Hackney would be a dream! Well, especially if it was Bert's Barge! Have you seen this beauty?!

What a beautifully designed small space! The white wood panelling keeps it bright while giving it a cosy cabin feel, and the Scandi modern look is softened by textiles and a beautiful rug from Larusi

As if just swanning around in here wouldn't be enough, you are also greeted with a welcome hamper and treated to a local artisan breakfast too. All to enjoy from the comfort of the king size bed with it's duck down bedding.

To be honest, I don't think our budget will stretch to the £250 per night price tag just now, not when we are in the middle of buying a house which needs some serious love and attention! So for now, I guess swooning over the images will have to do! But hey, if you do fancy treating yourself to a night on the river, then do let me know how it was!!

Places to stay: Filly Island, Cirencester

There are so many more options these days when it comes to finding accommodation for a little getaway. No longer are we confined to bland hotel rooms or twee B&B's, but we can opt for beautifully decorated and styled properties that will put you right at home, and will probably give you some inspiration for your own home too.

I recently came across this fantastic little cottage on Unique Home Stays website that I felt I had to share with you.

The cottage, called Filly Island is based in the Cotswolds, not far from Cirencester, and was originally a storeroom for the neighbouring mill. It's a compact one bedroom cottage, but it is packed full of vintage character and upcycling ideas. This kitchen has totally stolen my heart!

The corrugated tin wall is a bold move, but I love how it looks here. What do you think? The sink in the bathroom is also a favourite and I LOVE LOVE LOVE the sliding door between the bedroom and bathroom! Such a great space saver idea, but still looks fabulous. Oh and check out the bed headboard, I'm definitely planning something like this in our new house.

The outside is equally as beautiful and the living room opens out into the patio. I can just imagine snuggling on that sofa with a good book and glimpsing up at the pretty view every now and then!

You can check out the listing on Unique Home Stays for all the info - it's those extra little touches like cashmere hot water bottles and waffle robes that make me want to go stay here so bad! hint hint family and friends, Christmas is coming!! :)
